PTSD & Trauma

PTSD & Trauma

Trauma can be crippling and feel overwhelming. It can even stop you from doing everyday tasks and affect relationships. The feelings of anxiety, panic, feeling unsafe, out of control, mood swings can get worse over time if untreated. Trauma can include flashbacks and nightmares, which are debilitating and difficult for others to understand.

We are here to help you process these memories safely and in a relaxed state. We use the most comfortable and effective Trauma Therapy technique – “The Rewind”. It can greatly reduce, and even remove, traumatic or phobic symptoms quickly. The Rewind techniques is one of the most effective treatments for treating PTSD and Phobia. The process is very similar to Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also use Trauma Focused CBT to update the meanings and beliefs attached to the Trauma, which sometimes get stuck and drive the strong emotions leading to distress.

The Rewind Steps:

Inducing relaxation

Deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or guided imagery.

Establishing a safe place

A client is asked to imagine a safe, calming place, such as a beach or meadow. This serves as a refuge throughout the treatment.

Identifying the trigger

The therapist asks the individual to recall the memory or phobia in detail, focusing on the trigger that sets off the emotional response.

Rewinding the memory

The client is asked to imagine the memory as a movie, and then rewind the movie quickly and play back in reverse. This is repeated several times until there is a detachment from the memory.

Associating with the safe place

The client is then asked to imagine the same memory or phobia again, but this time while in the safe place. The therapist may also suggest positive affirmations or coping strategies to reinforce feelings of safety and control.

Frequently Asked Questions?

Is Hypnosis Safe?

Hypnosis is a natural phenomenon that we do each day without even knowing. We go into trance when we are driving our cars, watching TV, reading an enjoyable book, by doing this we have complete focus.

Hypnosis could be described as an ideal state of learning for the brain. It replicates a very powerful and transformative sleep stage called REM when the brain is relaxed, calm and more suggestible.

Hypnosis is not an actual therapy but a platform in which psychotherapy can travel. It not only helps in challenging thoughts, but also change emotions, which is something talking therapies alone take longer to achieve.

What does hypnosis feel like?

You will feel relaxed and peaceful, whilst you are guided through imagery and visualizations, whilst having an increased awareness of your physical and mental state.
You will shut off any noise, worry or distraction from the outside world and focus on internal and specific tasks and solutions. You may tap into memories or experiences whilst in a relaxed state of mind feeling safe and in control and more open to suggestion and change.

How long before you notice any change?

It depends from case to case but most people start feeling benefits immediately. Some people even notice positive change in areas of their life that they weren’t even expecting.

How many therapy sessions will I need to see results?

This depends on the individual but as a broad rule, ‘Stop Smoking’ is one session, Phobias is four and all other conditions, generally, from eight to twelve sessions. This will be discussed in your initial consultation.
